The completion of the Human Genome Project and advances in genomics science and technology have enabled the investigation of molecular and cellular underpinnings of human health and disease. The application of biostatistics ideas and techniques has become essential in analyzing genetics and genomics data, helping to discover better ways to promote human health and prevent and treat human disease. In this talk, I would like to share my experiences and insights on the application of biostatistics ideas and techniques in biomedical data analysis. First, I will introduce genome-wide association studies, which aim to identify genetic variants in human genome associated with health and disease. Second, I will discuss recent advances in omics science and technology that facilitates the identification of the molecular and cellular underpinnings, offering exciting opportunities for the application and development of biostatistical data analysis methods. Finally, I will briefly describe challenges and opportunities in the field of biomedical data science, drawing on my personal research ideas and plans.
